Student visa

As soon as you get a positive answer and the admission letter from University of Rennes 1, you can start your visa procedure by contacting the nearest French consulate to your place of residence.

It enables the holder to request a renewable 1-year residency permit at the prefecture of their place of residence in the 2 months following their arrival in France. CROUS Accommodation

If you are accepted to attend the international master program, a room will be booked for you at the university hall of residence from the 1st of September until the end of June (duration of the program). It is located very closed to Beaulieu campus and university restaurants.

It must be noted that nobody is expected to arrive in Rennes before the first of September, date of the booking at the university residency. Everything have to be done to facilitate your visa procedure.

The budget you will need to allow for an individual furnitured room without bathroom is around 165 € per month. For rooms including an individual bathroom, the cost is aroud 240 € / month.

List of documents to bring with you

  • Originals and translations in English of all your academic degrees obtained  included the A-level one
  • Passport
  • Health record or vaccinations certificate
  • Written evidence of parental financial resources
  • Birth certificate translated in French if possible
  • Identity photographs

Living expenditures

Following a decree of August 2011, the embassies now require proof of a minimum of 600 €/month of resources.

Your arrival

As soon as you get the details of your arrival, thanks to inform the secretariat in order to arrange your welcoming at the airport or at the railway station. Someone will meet you and take you to your residency.


To reach Rennes easily, you  have two possibilities.

  • Several flights a day link Roissy-charles de Gaulle or Orly airports to Rennes airport.
  • A direct train can be catch from Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. Roissy railway station is close to Terminal 2

Administrative procedures

The two first weeks of September are usually used for the administrative tasks (registration at the university, opening of your bank account, insurances, beginning of the procedure for the obtention of the 1-year residency permit ...). Assistance will be given to you at your arrival. The training program starts around the 15 of September.

Your environment

Rennes is the major city of Brittany, a wonderful peninsula of high cultural and historic heritage. You will appreciate to discover the many testimonies of the past : Parlement of Brittany Building Opera House, City Hall, Palais St Georges, Catédrale St Pierre, "Les Champs Libres" and the lastest one "Centre des Jacobins"

Rennes is also appreciated by its residents and visitors thanks to the quality of life offered. Do not miss the beautiful gardens, the wide range of activities and events all along the year and its economic and social dynamism.

Rennes is located only 350 km west from Paris, to which it is connected within 2 hours via the high speed train (TGV), and less than one hour from St Malo and sightseeings like Le Mont Saint Michel.
